Discovering Our Visions through Equestrian Services
|
In The Corral
This is where you will get to know our
horses and few other odds-n-ends about
all our beautiful breeds. We also have
honorary Ranch Mascots, various
feathered friends and mix of other critters.
Around here you never know who's
gonna' show up when the dinner bell rings!
Stella – American Quarter Horse - mare, color:
chestnut with a blaze and four socks, D.O.B:
5/27/1997. 14.2 hands tall and about 900#.
We acquired Stella from Linda Buell of Woodstock
Australian Shepherds, Shingle Springs, Ca. in
July 2004. Stella has been a great kid’s horse.
She stands at about 14.2 hands, which makes
her the perfect size for kids of all ages.
Stella can be a bit stubborn at times, and when
she gets anxious or impatient, she will grind her
teeth! She is really very harmless, and really loves
the attention from the kids. She’ll follow you
around when you are cleaning her paddock
nudging you and crowded you, trying to get you to
scratch her shoulders or rump! Stella is our first
“back into horses” horse, read all about the story
here.

Molly – American Paint Horse – mare,
color: sorrel overo sabina with big blaze and
four stockings. D.O.B: 3/11/98. 15.1 Hands
tall and about 1000#.
We bought Molly from a young girl in Sept.
2004. The young girl wanted a barrel racing
horse, but Molly was too big and lazy to run
barrels as fast as it needed to be done.
We saw an ad for her in our local paper and
when we saw her, we knew we wanted to
take her home. Molly is a wonderful kid’s
horse, she is gentle and easy going and
really pretty to look at.
She loves horse cookies and carrots and
expects one (or two) after she has given you a
ride! She is Miss Gayle’s favorite horse to
take on trail rides. Molly is our second “back
into horses” horse, read all about the story
here.

Tony – Pony of The Americas – gelding,
color: Bay spotted Leopard, D.O.B:
2/15/1991. 12.2 hands tall and about 670#
Tony the wonder Pony! Every one loves Tony!
He is so colorful and cute! He is our driving
and parade pony, strutting his stuff whenever
he is in a parade. Tony was given to us by Bill
and Carol Grant of Claremont, Ca.
We drove down to get Tony in Feb. 2005. Bill
& Carol’s kids had lost interest in the horses
they had and decided to find them all new
homes. They felt this was the best thing to
do, since Tony was not getting much
attention and had nothing to do all day.
The first few weeks we had Tony he didn’t
have much of a personality, he had been his
own pony for so long, he really didn’t want to
socialize much.
Different story now! Tony loves attention and
all the cookies and carrots he can bribe out
of the kids. He’ll even take a bow for a
cookie! Click on this link to read the full story
of how we found out about Tony.
Toby – Quarter Pony - gelding, color: Dark
bay, small star on forehead, D.O.B: Unk
about 13 yrs old. 14.1 hands tall and about
700#.
We acquired Toby on 11/12/05. We had
purchased a 2 year old POA mare a few
months prior and she was turning out to have
too much spunk for the kids. We made a
trade for Toby with a family that wanted a
smaller horse for their experienced horse
daughters.
They brought Toby down for us to take a look
at and we liked him. Toby does have some
attitude, but he’s really a good guy, you just
have to let him know who’s in charge! He
really softens up and plays “good boy” when
you bring out the horse cookies!

Mickey – Arabian gelding, color: Solid
Copper Bay, D.O.B: 7/26/1995. 14.3 hands
tall and about 900#.
Bill & Carol Grant of Claremont, Ca, also
gave Mickey to us. We made a second trip
down in March of 2006 to bring the remaining
horses of Bill & Carols back to Lodi to live
with us.
Along with Mickey came his half sister Star
and Star’s mother, Premier. We gave
Premier to my friend’s grand daughter to be
her first horse and about a year later we re-
homed Star with a nice lady and her grand
daughter in Manteca, Ca.
We kept Mickey, he is a beautiful Arabian,
gentle and sweet, but he needs more
training before we can use him in the
program for riding. We hope to get a sponsor
to help pay for this training. Click here to see
how you can sponsor a horse .

Cyd - American Paint Horse – mare, color:
sorrel overo with big blaze and four
stockings. D.O.sorrel B: 4/2/2004. 15 Hands
tall and about 1000#.
Cyd is the mare we traded Star for in Feb.
2007. Cyd was a bit under weight when we
got her, she had been pastured with an older
gelding and we think he was getting all the
feed. In no time at all Cyd bloomed with lots
of good alfalfa and cob, and is now a big
stout girl.
Cyd being very young still needed to be
“finished” so that we could use her in the
program. Cyd is now four years old and has
been out on several trail rides including a
camping trip! She is a sweetie and very fun to
ride. She is a favorite with all the kids, with
her blues eyes; she really knows how to
flash them to get pats and cookies!

Rosie – Welsh Mountain Pony – mare,
color: Bay with blaze and three stockings. D.
O.B: unknown, age about 10 years old. 10.2
hands tall and about 475#.
Rosie was given to us by Linda Belli of Valley
Springs, Ca. Read all about Rosie’s story in
our 2nd newsletter Rosie is a very special
pony; she can be ridden and pull a cart.
Rosie has been in several parades. Rosie is
also a “special” needs pony, as she has
chronic laminitis .
This condition can cause much pain in her
hoofs when she has a bout of it. She can not
be ridden or pull her cart during these
episodes. So when she is not feeling well
she gets lot’s of brushing and petting and
care from us and all the program kids. When
Rosie is feeling her best she is a feisty little
girl and is so pretty when she trots around
with her tail held high!

Merlin – Draft cross – colt, color: Bay with
big blaze, rt.eye blue, lt. eye brown, and four
white stockings. D.O.B: 11/8/2006. 13 hands
tall and about 750#.
Alex and Alicia Encoyand, Sonora, Ca gave
Merlin to the DOVES program in Nov. 2008.
Read all about Merlin’s story in our 3rd
newsletter . Merlin’s sire (dad) is a 17 hand
tall Shire and his dam (mom) is a Quarter
Pony. When a Draft is crossed with a smaller
horse or pony, the result is a Draft Cob. type
horse.
Merlin is very young right now and he will be
gelded in the spring. He is being trained for
riding and draft. Merlin is a very smart fella
and is very playful! He will play all day with his
bucket or what ever else is in his paddock.
He chases and plays with a big horse ball
and will even carry a plastic feed sack
around, tossing it and sticking his head
inside the bag!
He is very entertaining and with his markings
he looks just like a Budweiser horse which
are Clydesdale. Merlin has one blue and
one brown eye, which add to his personality
and uniqueness!

Star – Miniature Horse mare, color: solid
gray. D.O.B: 1996, 33 ½” tall and about 300#.
Mr. Denny Thompson of Sonora, CA, Alicia’s
dad, donated Star to the DOVES. Shortly after
Alicia & Alex gave us Merlin, Alicia wrote, “My
dad has a mini that he is trying to find a
home for. She is 12 or 13 years old and is
broke to ride and drive and is bomb proof.
She is a very easy keeper, in fact she is very
over weight right now and needs to lose a
good amount of weight but she is really nice.”
Alicia sent us photos of Star and we fell in
love with her! They brought her to us in
January of this year. They drove up in their
mini van, opened the back up and out jumps
Star! A mini horse delivered in a mini van! It
was just too cute!
Star has settled in completely and her and
Rosie are best buddies. It is so cute to see
my three-year-old grand daughter lead this
little horse around like a big dog, just so cute!
Star can’t see over her stall door, but she
reaches really high to just get her little muzzle
over the top to nicker for cookies!

Saki - AKA - Socks is a Shetland Pony
gelding, he is about 9 1/2 hands tall and
about 350#. He is around 6 years old. A very
good friend, Denise Nelson gave Saki to my
grand daughter, Olivia, this last July. Denise
also requested that Saki be used in the
D.O.V.E. Program for the little children. Saki
can be ridden and we are going to train him
to drive. Saki is a independent guy, but he
likes hanging out with our Mini - Star.
Jericho - Percheron and Morgan cross,
PMU rescued gelding. Jericho was donated to
the Oxfords to use in the DOVES program.
Jericho is approximately 5-6 years old, a dark
seal bay about 15.3 and about 1400#. Jerri is
a BIG boned draft cross with huge hoofs and a
BIG heart! Jerri lives up to the “Gentle Giant”
personality of the big draft horses. He will carry
the big or the littlest kids and adults with a quiet
and gentle attitude.
Cisco – is a sorrel Appaloosa with a white
blanket and blaze, about 14.3, 850# and
approximately 17 years old. Cisco was donated
to the DOVES on 9-10-2010. Cisco is a
typical Appy, he is kind, gentle and smart. He is
also very well trained and he is already a
favorite of the kids.
Galli – Goliath – Percheron, American
Quarter Horse & Thoroughbred cross. Galli
is 16.3 hands high and about 1500#! He is a
black and white pinto and a PMU rescued
gelding. Nannette Newbury donated Galli to
the DOVES in Oct. 2010. Galli is a very sweet
and gentle giant and has a wonderful
personality.

TOBY UPDATE: Sometimes, with our
horses, we find that they are not suited for
our type of riding program for one or more
reasons. Such is the case with Toby, after 3
½ years in the DOVES program, we came to
the conclusion that Toby needed a much
more structured and active life. So with great
consideration and some sadness, it was
decided to find Toby a more suitable
environment. And so we did! I am so happy
to report that Toby has a new home with the
Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville.
This wonderful school has an equestrian
facility for the students that attend this
school. They specialize in Hunter Jumper,
but also offer Western and English lessons
for riders of all skill levels.
The first two weeks Toby was at the school,
they took him to a show, where he won his
classes! We are so proud of Toby, and
happy he is excelling in his new home. We
do miss him, but we also know that we did
the best thing for Toby. Please visit the
Monte Vista web-site!
